What is Canadian Expatriate Insurance by Destination?
Emergency medical essential travel insurance of Destination is designed for Canadians working or living abroad that are under 65 years old.
This insurance is designed to cover losses arising from sudden and unforeseeable circumstances.
It is very important that you read and understand the terms of your policy as the coverage contains provisions relating to eligibility, pre-existing conditions, limitations and exclusions.
Who is eligible?
You must meet the following conditions on your policy effective date to be eligible for Destination insurance:
- Be under age sixty five (65); or
- Are considered a dependent; and
- Be a Canadian citizen or hold a Canadian landed immigrant status; and
- Have paid the required premium.
Newborn children shall be eligible to apply for insurance on the fifteenth (15) day after discharge from the hospital where the birth took place.
Exclusions for medical conditions exsists prior to becoming insured
- Any condition (except for a minor ailment) for which the insured person has sought or received medical treatment, advice, follow-up visits, counseling, or has taken prescription drugs within one hundred and eighty (180) days prior to becoming insured
- A medical condition shall be covered when subsequently a continuous period of not less than three hundred and sixty-five (365) consecutive days has passed during which time the insured person has not sought or received medical treatment, advice, followup visits, counselling, nor has taken prescription drugs related to such condition.

Continued coverage for up to 13 weeks, until your government health insurance plan takes effect, when you return to your home country.

Important Information about Coverage
- Travel insurance covers claims arising from sudden and unexpected situations. (i.e. accidents and emergencies).
- This insurance contains limitations and exclusions (i.e. medical conditions that are not stable, pregnancy, child born on trip, excessive use of alcohol, high risk activities).
- This insurance may not cover claims related to pre-existing medical conditions, whether disclosed or not at time of policy purchase.

Important Information on Canadian expatriate insurance
If you do not contact Zurich Assistance prior to seeking medical treatment without reasonable cause, you will have to pay 20% of the eligible medical expenses we would normally pay under this insurance.
